There are hundreds of AI tools. Dozens of git GUIs. Countless file managers. So why build another app?
The Real Problem Isn't the Tools — It's the Gaps
Every tool works fine on its own. The problem is what happens between them:
- You ask ChatGPT to review a file, but you have to copy-paste the content manually
- You want to push changes, but the terminal is buried under six windows
- A team member needs to update a document, but they're terrified of git
- You switch between three browser tabs, a terminal, and a file manager just to complete one task
The gap between tools is where productivity dies.
Our Approach: One App, Zero Friction
Showrunner doesn't try to be the best at any single thing. Instead, it connects the things you already do:
- Chat with AI about your actual files — mention them with
@filenameand the AI reads them as context - Manage git without the terminal — or use the built-in terminal if you prefer
- Sync for everyone — one click to commit, pull, and push, with time travel to undo mistakes
- Switch contexts instantly — jump between projects with separate file trees and chat histories
Why Desktop?
We chose to build a desktop app (Electron + React) instead of a web app for a reason:
- Direct file system access — no uploads, no syncing, no waiting
- Native terminal — real PTY sessions, not a web-based imitation
- Git integration — works with your actual repos, not copies
- Offline-capable — your files and history are always available
- Privacy — your project files never leave your machine (AI calls go through OpenRouter, but file storage is 100% local)
Who Is This For?
Showrunner is for anyone who manages projects with files, uses AI, or works with git:
- Developers who want AI chat with file context and git built in
- Freelancers managing multiple client projects
- Small teams where not everyone is comfortable with git
- Content creators who work with markdown, docs, and media files
If you've ever wished your AI chatbot could just see your project — Showrunner is for you.
